In 1885, the buildings on this block were mostly wooden structures and included a millinery, a laundry, and a general store.

By 1889, the Hotel Perkins and the Thorpe Opera House had been constructed. Businesses on the block include a drug store, a grocery store, a millinery store, a photography studio, a meat market, and a marble shop.

In this 1904 photograph, the businesses included the Hotel Perkins, C. Eller & Son – Drugs and Groceries, Thorpe Opera House, Temperance Billiard Hall, John Knott, F.M. Reynolds studio, and L.L. Sawyer Groceries.
