490 E St
This location was home to the Commercial Hotel in 1885. That wooden structure was replaced by this brick building for the City National Bank, a leading financial institution whose president was B.O. Perkins. The offices above the new bank were used by other professionals, such as the physicians and surgeons Cook & Lester, and attorney C.H. Aldrich.
First National Bank took over City National Bank after the bank crisis in 1933. A major fire on the north side of the square in January 1966 destroyed two store buildings west of the bank and caused water and smoke damage to the bank building. The bank was extensively remodeled and expanded and held a grand re-opening in March 1967.
This is the location of the current city offices and police department.
